International status
European-American University is an international university and non-governmental organization operating chiefly through the medium of the Internet and bringing together a worldwide network of campuses and individuals in administration, faculty and student relationships. The adjunct faculty and administration are located in various countries and degrees may be conferred in different jurisdictions where permitted by law. The University holds a number of forms of recognition, validation and accreditation from professional bodies around the world, which are detailed below.
The University's operation rests on the basis of two charters. Its corporate charter, issued by the Commonwealth of Dominica, provides it with the legal authority to function as a private international university. The University holds a further Royal Charter from HRH the Chief of Gomoa Nyanyano, Ghana, awarded in recognition of its work in Ghana and throughout Africa.
As a private institution, the University is responsible for its own quality management systems and adheres to the Principles of Good Practice for Electronically Offered Academic Degree and Certificate Programs of the Western Co-operative for Educational Telecommunications, which may be read here. The University also meets the standards of ISO 9001:2008 - Quality Management System for Quality Assurance. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is the only quality assurance system recognized by intergovernmental agreement between 148 different countries, and is based on the principles of stakeholder satisfaction and continual improvement through quality management systems. Many universities around the world have implemented the internationally recognized ISO 9001 standard.
Royal Charter
In August
2010, as a mark of recognition and support for the
University's educational programs in Ghana and throughout Africa, the
University was awarded a Royal Charter from HRH Nana Dr. Obeng Wiabo V,
the Chief of Gomoa Nyanyano, and Oshihene (Chairman of Lands) of Gomoa
Akempim Traditional Area, Ghana. Ghana's historic traditional
monarchies are recognized under the Chieftaincy Act 1971.>>View Royal Charter
Corporate Charter
European-American University's corporate
basis was established by becoming licensed as European-American
University, Ltd., which enables the institution to function with full
legal authority and to accept students worldwide.
European-American University holds certificates of incorporation and
good standing from the government of the Commonwealth of Dominica. The
Commonwealth of Dominica is a member of the British Commonwealth, the
Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie and UNESCO.
Under common law precedents concerning university title and the conducting of university work, European-American University is legally permitted to conduct all activities proper to an international, private institution of postsecondary education, including the conferral of degrees up to the doctoral level, in any jurisdiction that permits this activity. European-American University maintains its registered office in Roseau Valley, Commonwealth of Dominica, but under the statute governing its incorporation does not offer educational activities within Dominica itself.

European-American University is a private university. It is not a part of the Dominican or any other state education system and does not award state degrees. It accepts no state funding in connection with any of its activities. The activities of Dominica-licensed private universities operating wholly outside that country are subject to statutory exemption and are the responsibility of the Registrar of Companies rather than the Ministry of Education, which is concerned solely with purely domestic institutions. The relevant legislation is found in the Commonwealth of Dominica Statutory Rules and Orders (SRO) no. 65 of 1996 which authorizes the International Business Companies Act 1996, under which Act the University is incorporated.
Licensing of campuses
EAU International Partners (affiliated campuses) generally hold governmental licensing to operate and run the programs they offer, or are subject to statutory exemption in the various countries concerned. Please contact the campus concerned for details.
Professional Recognition
The majority of EAU graduates are senior or mid-career professionals seeking educational solutions tailored to the needs of the twenty-first century. Our alumni include royalty, senior government officials, church and business leaders from around the world. As befits the history of private university education, they are a select group who prefer the bespoke nature of the programs offered by EAU to those offered in the mass education sector. EAU alumni can be found in a wide range of corporate settings from multinationals to social enterprises. Others include successful entrepreneurs and respected consultants.
EAU graduates are also members of a wide range of professional associations. Recognition by such associations typically depends not only on educational background but on the applicant's professional experience. For some associations, ordinary membership is accessible to any person with relevant interests without requirement of prerequisites, while others admit to graded levels of membership depending on the level of prior qualifications and experience of the applicant. In each case, membership offers opportunities for personal and professional development within the area(s) concerned.
The University has specific recognition agreements with the following professional associations, which have agreed to accept its degrees as fulfilling academic entry requirements for designated graduate and postgraduate-level awards.

University recognition and reciprocal credit arrangements
A number of universities have agreed to accept credits and degrees from European-American University for the purposes of further study or the award of a reciprocal degree. The University has a validation agreement with the Universidad Empresarial de Costa Rica, a fully accredited university in Central America, for this purpose, and graduates of either institution may proceed to a reciprocal degree at the other institution upon payment of a validation fee. The University also has a full partnership agreement of reciprocal degree recognition with the International Christian University, Lagos, which is accredited by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The University makes no representations as to the transfer of credit from its programs except where a specific agreement exists. In respect of credit transfer where there is no such agreement, it is important to note that the transfer of credit from one institution to another is always at the discretion of the receiving school, generally depends on comparability of curricula, and may depend on comparability of accreditation. Applicants who wish to seek transfer credit must establish through prior enquiry with the school(s) concerned that they will accept transfer credit from European-American University.
Professional licensing
As European-American University is primarily an institution serving experienced adults, most of our students are already licensed professionals at the time of their enrolment. Our programs are designed for a world-wide audience, and therefore are not written to meet any specific licensing requirements in any particular state or country. It would be impossible for any university to offer courses which meet all licensing requirements for every state, every province, and every nation. Those considering a degree for licensing purposes are directed to carry out local enquiries in their own country concerning such matters by contacting whichever local bodies the applicant deems relevant to his or her purpose. European-American University cannot undertake to do so on the applicant's behalf. A list of those professional bodies that have formally agreed to accept European-American University programs in fulfilment of their requirements is provided above.
What does all this mean for your situation?
All issues of accreditation are specific to your current and anticipated future needs and intentions as far as using your degree is concerned. It is common for recognition policies to depend on a school holding accreditation, and while a particular form of accreditation may be acceptable in some circumstances, in others it may not. Except where a given institution publishes rules as to its policy on this area, it is not possible to issue general guidelines, still less guidelines that are applicable in every circumstance and to every country.
It is therefore necessary that, before enrolment, you check carefully with present and potential employers and any other authority whose approval is important to you that the accreditation status of EAU will be appropriate for your needs. The University cannot undertake to make these enquiries for you and makes no representation as to the acceptance of its degrees by third parties except where a formal written agreement between the University and the third party in question is in force.
For residents of the United States of America
If you are resident in the United States of America, you should be aware that European-American University is not accredited or licensed by an agency recognised by the federal government of the United States of America. In the United States of America, many federal, state and private organisations require U.S.-accredited degrees. In these situations it is the responsibility of the individual concerned to establish whether or not a foreign degree will be an acceptable alternative. European-American University makes no representations concerning the acceptance of its degrees in the United States of America.
