Distance learning programs at EAU
Taught programs
Taught programs available in the arts and humanities are capable of being highly customized although guidance on a suggested modular structure for most degrees is provided via a program outline. A frequently-encountered option is that the candidate will evolve and define their program methodology by means of a learning contract agreed at the outset of their program with their Mentor. The Mentor will also prescribe the relevant reading and assignments for each module. Modules are typically assessed solely by means of coursework; there are no formal examinations although it is common for a module to end with a summative exercise that seeks to draw together the knowledge and skills previously gained.
All listed programs are offered subject to the availability of suitable Mentors and examiners.

Master's degrees
The Master's degree is a second degree that involves a high degree of specialisation and command of the area studied. It will be attempted by candidates who hold a bachelor's degree or its equivalent, and may be seen either as a free-standing professional qualification or as a preparation for doctoral study. A Postgraduate Diploma may be awarded to a learner who has completed 50% of the requirements for a master's degree and wishes to terminate their studies at this point.

Doctoral degrees
The DBA and DMin programs are classified as practitioner doctorates, and are of equal academic standing compared with the PhD degree. The practitioner doctorate, as its name implies, is particularly focussed on the workplace as a learning environment and source of experiences that may form the foundation for work within the program. The methodology for assessment of these degrees is built on the assessment of learning in the workplace through portfolio and supervised practicum, allied to a dissertation on a relevant topic. A similar professional focus is evident in the DMus, which is a degree based on executant ability in musical composition.
