Programs in Christian Theology
The University offers diploma and degree programs in Christian Theology within the Liberal Catholic tradition which are suitable for intending ordinands, as well as some more general programs. These programs consist of structured coursework completed under the guidance of a mentor, with scope for individual choice and the customization of assignment titles.
The following certificates, diplomas and degrees are available:
Within the Liberal Catholic tradition
Candidates may compound credit for the B.Th., producing an integrated program in which the candidate progresses through all three awards stage by stage.
Master of Theology in Liberal Catholic Studies
Interdenominational programs
Certified Funeral Minister (CFM)
Certified Senior Funeral Minister (CSFM)
Integrated program leading to the B.Ch.Mus. via freestanding diplomas
Associateship in Church Music (A.Ch.Mus.)
Licentiateship in Church Music (L.Ch.Mus.)
Bachelor of Church Music (B.Ch.Mus.)
Candidates may compound credit for the B.Ch.Mus., producing an integrated program in which the candidate progresses through all three awards stage by stage.
Master of Theology in Thanatology
Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Theology by dissertation
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Theology by dissertation
Ordination
Candidates may seek to complete a qualification in theology in order to pursue ordination. They are themselves responsible for establishing the requirements of their chosen denomination.
Within the Liberal Catholic Apostolic Church, the Bachelor in Theology is accepted as a qualification for ordination. Since there are further requirements to be completed before ordination can be granted, candidates are reminded that they should not assume that successful completion of the educational requirements alone will be sufficient grounds for ordination.
Qualifications for existing ministers
The Certified Funeral Minister and Certified Senior Funeral Minister awards are suitable only for ministers with experience of funeral ministry and who are engaged in active practice within that area.
Theological standpoint
Although many of these courses are taught from a particular Christian standpoint, members of other faiths and of no particular faith are welcome to apply, providing they are prepared to accept the faith position of the course in question. Since the programs are taught within a liberal ethos, they do not hold to such dogmas as the inerrancy of Scripture, and are inclusive and accepting in a way that may be challenging to those who hold traditional positions on faith.
Candidates are accepted to all programs without requirement that they accept particular statements of faith or belief.
